Flavors and Scents of Florence

The first tour starts from Florence Central Market, for an overview of typical fresh products that can also be tasted.

From the area of San Lorenzo the itinerary leads us to Via della Scala to visit the Officina Profumo - Farmaceutica of Santa Maria Novella. Born in the year 1221 thanks to the Dominican friars, the ancient Spice shop was first opened to the public in 1612.

The halls are awe-inspiring, dressed with frescoes on vaulted ceilings and walls, plasterings and imposing pieces of furniture. It hosts a collection of glasses, majolicas and alchemical instruments.

The Heart of Florence

The second tour starts with a cup of coffee at Rivoire bar, in Piazza della Signoria.

A stroll through the places bound to Dante's life will follow as well as a visit to the church of Santa Margherita de’ Cerchi, hosting Beatrice's tomb.

Next stop will be the Spedale degli Innocenti with its famous Ruota (Wheel), in Piazza Santissima Annunziata. Designed by Brunelleschi in the XV Century, it is considered the most ancient building of Reinassance Architecture. Entirely financed by the Art of Wool Guild back in the Florentine Republic times, it was the first institution in the whole Europe to be conceived to heal, grow and find a job for orphans and abandoned babies.
